Tour Plan: 4 Days Trip Fes to Merzouga
Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Dades Gorges
We’ll begin this trip from Fes with a scenic drive to Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its cool climate and European-style houses.
After a short stop, we’ll head to the cedar forest near Azrou, where you can observe playful wild monkeys, feed them, and take pictures.
Next, we’ll continue our travel to Midelt, a town known for its apple orchards, where we’ll stop to have a traditional lunch and take a break. We’ll continue our afternoon drive through the impressive Ziz Valley, where palm groves line the route and the views are nothing short of spectacular.
Our day will finish at Dades Gorges, home to impressive cliffs and the iconic “Monkey Fingers.” We’ll have dinner and spend the night at a charming hotel nearby.
Day 2: Dades Gorges – Todra Gorges – Tinjdad- Merzouga
After breakfast, we’ll visit the impressive Todra Gorges, where the tall red cliffs rise high on both sides of the river. You’ll have some time to walk around and enjoy the scenery.
Next, we’ll drive through the palm groves and small Berber villages of Touroug and Tinjdad, where we’ll stop for lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll reach Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert.
Here, you’ll hop on camels and ride into the beautiful sand dunes of Erg Chebbi, one of the largest dune areas in Morocco. We’ll stop at the top of a dune to watch the sunset.
The day ends with a delicious dinner and Berber music around a campfire at a luxury desert camp, where we’ll spend the night under the stars.
Day 3: Explore Merzouga – Nomad Visit – Khamlia Village
We’ll wake up early to catch the sunrise over the desert. After breakfast, we’ll ride camels back to Merzouga, where the driver will be waiting for us.
Today, we’ll spend the day discovering the Merzouga region. We’ll start by going off-road to explore an old eyeliner mine. Then, we’ll visit local nomadic families who live in handmade tents.
You’ll get to learn about their lifestyle and enjoy some Berber tea with them. After that, we’ll visit Khamlia Village, where we’ll enjoy traditional Gnaoua music played by local musicians whose families came from countries like Mali and Sudan.
After lunch, we’ll take a walk in a palm grove and visit Merzouga Lake, which is sometimes home to flamingos. We’ll end the day with dinner and stay overnight at a comfortable hotel.
Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Fes
After breakfast, we’ll leave the desert behind and drive to Rissani, an ancient city that used to be the capital of Tafilalet. We’ll explore the local souk, which is especially lively on market days like Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.
Next, we’ll drive to Erfoud, a town known for its fossilized marble workshops. We’ll visit one of these workshops to see how they process the fossils. Afterward, we’ll follow the Ziz River and stop at a viewpoint for a panoramic view of the valley.
Finally, we’ll drive back to Fes, passing through Ifrane one more time, and drop you off at your hotel or the airport to end the tour.
